The Music

About the Program

Bursting with energy, Mozart’s overture to The Marriage of Figaro sets the stage for one of opera’s greatest comedies. With its racing tempos        and sparkling melodies, this brilliant curtain-raiser captures the spirit of mischief and elegance that defines the entire work.

Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 blends classical grace with a bold sense of expression that would come to define his later music. From         playful exchanges between soloist and orchestra to moments of dazzling virtuosity, the concerto offers both charm and brilliance, showcasing         the piano at its most dynamic.

Inspired by his time in America, Dvořák’s “New World” Symphony is a powerful and deeply moving journey. Rich with memorable themes and         sweeping emotion, the work weaves together influences from American spirituals and folk music into a symphonic masterpiece that continues         to captivate audiences worldwide.
